Placing a large steel order is a bigger commitment than a one-off purchase, and a few overlooked details can turn into costly problems down the line. Here are five things worth confirming before you sign off on a bulk order. 1. Confirm the exact grade and standard. Don't rely on a generic product name — get the grade (e.g. ASTM A36, Fe500D) in writing, and ask for the mill test certificate before or with delivery. 2. Verify tolerances match your process. If your fabrication or production line depends on tight dimensional tolerance, confirm the supplier's tolerance range explicitly rather than assuming "standard" is tight enough for your application. 3. Clarify delivery logistics upfront. Confirm who is responsible for unloading, whether the delivery vehicle can access your site, and realistic delivery windows — especially for large tonnage orders that may require multiple trips. 4. Ask about minimum order quantities and price breaks. Bulk pricing often has step thresholds — ordering slightly more (or restructuring delivery timing) can sometimes reduce your per-ton cost meaningfully. 5.
